Worker building a wooden fence

How long does a fence installation take?

Most residential fences in the Jacksonville area take one to three days of on-site work once materials are on hand and approvals are done. The longer timeline is everything before the build: the estimate, HOA architectural approval, any required permit, and the installer's schedule. Starting the paperwork early is the single best way to shorten the total wait.

Which material is best for coastal weather?

There is no single winner — there is a trade. Vinyl and aluminum ask the least of you in salt air and humidity. Wood costs less upfront and looks classic, but it needs sealing and eventual board replacement. Chain link is the value champion where privacy is not the goal. The Cost Guide and material pages on this site walk through the comparison in detail.

Can my existing fence be repaired instead of replaced?

Often, yes — if the damage is localized and the posts and structure are otherwise sound. Leaning sections, broken boards, cracked vinyl panels, storm damage, and sagging gates are the common repair calls in Onslow County. Our Fence Repair page walks through the honest repair-vs.-replace test. The local company that inspects your fence makes the final call.

Do I need HOA approval or a permit?

If you live in a planned community, assume yes to HOA approval until your covenants say otherwise — and submit before you build. Permit requirements vary by jurisdiction and fence height; your installer can tell you what applies at your address. Our HOA & Permit Guide gives the general picture (general information only, not legal advice).

Are the photos on this site your work?

No. Any gallery or example images on this site are examples shown for inspiration only. They are not photographs of fences built by any company connected with this site, and no page on this site claims they are. The local company you connect with can show you its own work and references when you request an estimate.

Does Onslow Fence Pros install fences?

No. Onslow Fence Pros is an information and referral service owned by Branch and Vine Capital, LLC. We connect homeowners with independent local fence companies, and those companies provide estimates, support any required approvals, and perform all installation and repair work under their own licenses and insurance. We do not employ installers, and quotes come from the company that would build your fence. Where North Carolina general-contractor licensing applies to a project, compliance with the state's requirements and thresholds is that operating company's responsibility — ask the company directly about the licensing and insurance it carries for your project.
